The trailer for Earthworm Jim HD (Xbox Live) is out today.
Overall it looks OK and the original game is intact. But do read on…
Bonus levels and characters have been included without Doug TenNapel’s approval – he has confirmed that. For anyone who is new to Earthworm Jim – he is the creator of the character and most of the core characters from the original games. I’m pretty sure that suggests he was entitled to some control over his own creation. 
I’m sure you can make your own mind up about it. This isn’t perfect – please get Doug involved 100% with anything else for crying out loud…but the Gameloft development team are good people and have tried their best under the circumstances. I am starting to wonder whether anyone is listening or cares about the original fans though. A “Lol Cat” has no place in this world or the next in any self respecting EWJ game.
Of course naturally after I posted this rather apologetic post about how difficult it is to be a fan of something when the big people making stuff apparently don’t care what we think and enjoy making rude over our childhood memories…we found out a few more disconcerting things about this game involving a Finding Nemo fish that was probably found on a Google image search being in one of the levels (That’s a big “Don’t”) and a plagiarised fan art from DevianArt inserted into the player interface. Not to mention that the “HD” content is actually pretty bad up-close. Yeah. Awkward.
Ah. I miss the original 1994 – 1996 Shiny team. They knew how to have a good time. When you see this, you are seeing their original work at its core and that’s what makes people nostalgic and happy. Not the “HD remake” thing.
If all of this “HD” stuff isn’t to your liking, the Whole Can o’ Worms PC version (Earthworm Jim 1 and 2) are available for download at Good Old Games. It also comes with lots of bonus stuff.

Hey that Good Old Games site looks awesome! I didn’t know 1 and 2 are available to download now. I just have a quick question, I can no longer play EWJ 1 on the PC anymore as my laptop will just not run the disk and I was interesting in purchasing it from the site. Do you think I would be able to buy it from the UK? I know you probably can but the site only seems to list it in dollars.
Sure, I’m in the UK too. It does the conversion for you…I think I just used pay-pal to do that stuff actually. I can’t remember. x___x
