The annual 2010 Comic Con in San Diego is just round the corner now…only four days to go if you’re on your way there.

Doug TenNapel is a special guest at this years Comic Con!
He will be exhibiting his work and greeting fans at booth 1714.

Tommy Tallarico’s Video games live is playing a concert this year at Comic Con which should be fantastic.

I don’t know if this falls under news or speculation…but Doug TenNapel has told me that he has remained friends with the other original members of the Earthworm Jim team too…there is definitely positive weight to this.

What I’m saying is they were willing to do it then, I think they would still be willing to do it at some point in the future (David Perry Interview)

It’s comforting to know. He of all people should know how to do it justice – and that’s partly by getting the original team back together. It would be awesome! Of course whether this comes to pass in the future remains to be seen.

Perry is currently working on Gaikai – a service that allows people to play games on any sort of application with an internet connection – a pretty amazing feat.

This is Doug TenNapel’s tenth Graphic novel to be published. It’s in full colour and being published by Scholastic GRAPHIX.

Imagine Garth Hale’s surprise when he’s accidentally zapped to the spirit world by Frank Gallows, a washed-out ghost wrangler. Suddenly Garth finds he has powers the ghosts don’t have, and he’s stuck in a world run by the evil ruler of Ghostopolis, who would use Garth’s newfound abilities to rule the ghostly kingdom. When Garth meets Cecil, his grandfather’s ghost, the two search for a way to get Garth back home, and nearly lose hope until Frank Gallows shows up to fix his mistake.

Robert at Unearthed figured out that it has been a whole sixteen years since the release of the original Genesis version of Earthworm Jim back in 1994. Phew…that was quite some time ago!

I am finally making some progress towards illustrating the Character Biography section of the site…

First in line is Peter Puppy.
It may take a while. I haven’t had much time to do these things over the last few years from my days of being a student, side projects, and work. I’ll see if I can squeeze these in though.

Well it’s June, and for a lot of people around the world that means looking forward to the annual San Diego Comic-Con International convention in July.

It’s great if you’re interested in anything from Comics, Illustration, Fantasy art, Films and Video Games. It’s a big show.
One of my favourite things about it are the costumes people wear to it!

Doug TenNapel will be there as usual, and this year Video Games Live will be there on Saturday, July 24th at the Civic Theatre.

The trailer for Earthworm Jim HD (Xbox Live) is out today.

Overall it looks very nice and the original game is intact.

Bonus levels and characters have been included without Doug TenNapel’s approval – he has confirmed that. For anyone who is new to Earthworm Jim – he is the creator of the character and most of the core characters from the original games. I’m pretty sure that suggests he was entitled to some control over his own creation.

I’m sure you can make your own mind up about it. This isn’t perfect – please get Doug involved 100% with anything else for crying out loud…but the Gameloft development team are good people and have tried their best under the circumstances. I am starting to wonder whether anyone is listening or cares about the original fans though. A “Lol Cat” has no place in this world or the next in any self respecting EWJ game.

Ah. I miss the original 1994 – 1996 Shiny team. They knew how to have a good time. When you see this, you are seeing their original work at its core and that’s what makes people nostalgic and happy. Not the “HD remake” thing.

If all of this “HD” stuff isn’t to your liking, the Whole Can o’ Worms PC version (Earthworm Jim 1 and 2) are available for download at Good Old Games. It also comes with lots of bonus stuff.

We’ve got two new canine family members running us ragged at home and May has been a busy month. I took a bit of a break from this place – it took a bit longer than expected to open the forum back up.
I’ve made some more Jim smilies and rank images in the downtime. I’ll keep making those things – at least until I get sick of it anyway!

Earthworm Jim HD looks like it will be released soon. It is another spruced up conversion of Earthworm Jim 1, but exclusively for XBLA and PSN. It will have a four player co-operative mode.

As for “Earthworm Jim 4″ and the new Film/TV show deal announced in 2008 – nothing is happening for that yet, which has also been confirmed officially.
Please keep in mind that the only places to know for sure are from official sources, not internet rumours.

Hopefully if that Earthworm Jim relaunch happens, TenNapel will be heading and controlling his own character properly. Nothing is bona fide EWJ if it hasn’t been created by him and his fellow industry veterans – which is what we really have wanted for years…years and years. And that’s the only thing that would get ol’ Jim back on his feet in a truly wonderful way.

Gameloft have put out release dates and a trailer for the DSIWare version of Earthworm Jim 1.

It’ll come out on the 23rd of April in Europe, and then May the 10th for North America.

They are also working on an Xbox Live Arcade version, so if you have one of those you might want to wait for that one instead.

They are clearly working very hard on all these versions so that new fans can get a taste of the original games, which I can only see as a good thing. Again though I hope quality hasn’t been skimped too much, since that’s what made Earthworm Jim so endearing and long lasting in the first place.

Doug TenNapel will be at The Calgary Entertainment Expo this weekend with Axe Cop creator Ethan Nicolle too – so if you’re in that area, be sure to drop on by and say hello to them.
